The Australian shipyard Austal has handed over the RoPax cargo and passenger vessel “Dory 2” to the Degage Group in Vietnam. The newbuild is the shipyard’s first vessel with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure.
Austal Vietnam has delivered the 71-metre-long RoPax vessel “Dory 2” to the Degage Group of French Polynesia. The handover took place on 15 June at the Austal shipyard in Vung Tau. The newbuild had previously completed its sea trials.
The Degage Group has been one of the company’s customers for many years. Since 2003, Austal has designed and built several vessels for the group’s fleet, including the high-speed ferry “Apetahi Express”, which was delivered in 2023. According to the shipyard, “Dory 2” is the seventh vessel that Austal has delivered to the Degage Group.
The new vessel has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. According to Austal, it is the first vessel of this design to be delivered by Austal Vietnam. The vessel was designed by Austal Australia. Construction began in 2024, and the launch took place in March 2026.
“Dory 2” is intended for service between Papeete and the Palliser Islands in French Polynesia. The vessel can accommodate up to 140 seated passengers and 17 crew members. According to the shipyard, the newbuild has a service speed of 12 kn and a range of 1,000 sm. It is intended to support the supply of goods and provide a reliable transport link to the island region.
A 494 m² cargo deck is available for freight. It is designed to carry containers, palletised goods and vehicles. Its deadweight tonnage is stated as 1,400 t.
