AtoB@C Shipping has taken delivery of the multipurpose freighter “Megamar.” The plug-in hybrid vessel was delivered on Wednesday by the Indian shipyard Chowgule & Company. It is now the eleventh newbuild in a series of twelve plug-in hybrid vessels, each with a deadweight tonnage of 5,400 dwt.

The newbuilds are designed for operations in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. Their equipment includes battery technology and a shore power connection. This is intended to enable quiet and locally emission-free port calls. Ice class 1A is also intended to ensure year-round operation under northern conditions.

A series comprising twelve ships

AtoB@C Shipping uses the vessels for bulk, breakbulk, and project cargo. According to the company, the final vessel in the series, the “Luxomar,” is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of this year.

AtoB@C, the former joint venture between the Leer-based shipping group Briese and Swedish businessman Anders Nilsson, has been part of the shipping company ESL – or rather, the Finnish conglomerate Aspo – AtoB@C takes delivery of 11th plug-in hybrid freightersince 2018. The shipping company currently operates a fleet of 40 vessels with deadweight tonnages ranging from 4,000 to 25,000 tdw.
