On Sunday, the crew of the “AIDAnova” rescued four people from a burning fishing boat in the Skagerrak. The cruise ship, owned by the Rostock-based shipping company, was en route from Kiel to Bergen.
The four crew members had already abandoned the Danish-flagged cutter and taken refuge on a life raft. A boat from the “AIDAnova” picked them up. All four were unharmed, confirmed Per Ivar Austnaberg, head of operations at the Norwegian rescue coordination centre Hovedredningssentralen Sør, to the Danish newspaper ‘VG’.
Rescue helicopters from Norway and Denmark were also involved in the operation on 18 October. In addition, the Color Line ferry “SuperSpeed 1” altered its course to provide assistance. Once the shipwrecked crew were safe, the ferry was released from the operation.
The “AIDAnova” was then able to continue its journey to Bergen. Initially, there was no confirmed information regarding the cause of the fire or the subsequent fate of the fishing boat.
