The classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has appointed retired Rear Admiral Ronald J. Rábago as Senior Vice President Government Services. His work will focus on government maritime programs.
“Admiral Rábago brings outstanding government and industry experience that will further enhance our support to our government customers in the U.S. and around the world,” said John McDonald, Chairman and CEO of ABS. “His leadership and deep expertise in shipbuilding, procurement and fleet lifecycle management, as well as maritime safety and environmental protection, directly support ABS’ mission and long-term strategic priorities.”
In his new role, Rábago will work closely with U.S. and international government officials to support ABS’ integrated services to their fleets and industry stakeholders in the development of the maritime industry.
“I am excited to join ABS at a time of significant change and opportunity for government maritime programs,” said Rábago. “ABS’ technical excellence and global reach uniquely positions the company to help governments rapidly meet their evolving mission and capability requirements and develop a broader maritime industry base.”
Rábago has more than 30 years of service in the US Coast Guard. Most recently, the retired rear admiral served as deputy commander for engineering and logistics and chief engineer. Since then, he has held senior positions in the shipping and shipbuilding industry.
