A.P. Møller buys into Spanish port company

The private equity arm of AP Møller Holding acquires 51% of the Spanish port and logistics company Bergé y Compañía.

The aim of the agreement is to develop the terminal division into a leading port operator on the Iberian Peninsula and in Latin America, according to the statement. To this end, both partners have committed to investing considerable resources.

A purchase price was not disclosed, but industry experts estimate it at around €500 million.

AP Møller Capital, headquartered in Copenhagen, is a private equity firm with $2 billion in assets under management. It is controlled by AP Møller Holding, which is the majority shareholder of the shipping group AP Møller-Maersk.

Berge was founded in Spain more than 150 years ago and today operates in 27 ports in Spain, France, Mexico and Colombia. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
