Yara Clean Ammonia (YCA), a subsidiary of the Norwegian chemical company Yara International, has signed a long-term charter contract with Navigator Amon Shipping.
The world’s largest ammonia distributor has thus secured two modern medium gas carriers (MGC), each with a capacity of around 51,000 m³.
The ships have dual-fuel engines and an ice class and are intended to ensure year-round supplies to Northern Europe. Thanks to the use of renewable and low-emission fuels, the freighters should contribute to greater efficiency and lower transport costs.
“Building scalable and reliable supply chains is crucial to advancing the hydrogen economy,” explained Hans Olav Raen, CEO of Yara Clean Ammonia. Navigator Gas and Amon Maritime also emphasize the contribution of the newbuildings to the implementation of strict environmental regulations and the future use of ammonia as a marine fuel.
Yara Clean Ammonia currently operates 15 vessels and has access to 18 ammonia terminals and several production and consumption sites worldwide. In financial year 2024, the company generated revenue of $1.8 billion with EBITDA of $117 million.
