X-Press Feeders wants to create a green feeder network in the Baltic Sea. 14 newbuildings have been ordered for this purpose and the first ship is about to be delivered.
The ships, which are being built in China, have a capacity of 1,200 TEU and a length of 148 meters. The first of these dual-fuel feeders, the “Eco Maestro”, is already taking shape at the shipyard in China and is due to enter service in the first quarter of 2024. [ds_preview]
The shipping company, which belongs to DP World, has ordered a total of 14 modern container ships. Francis Goh, COO of X-Press Feeders, announced that the “Eco Maestro” will use bio-methanol as fuel on its maiden voyage to Europe.
X-Press Feeders is still looking for methanol suppliers
According to him, the Eco Mastro would save 268 kg of CO2 emissions per TEU carried on a round trip, compared to a feeder vessel of similar capacity running on conventional marine fuel.
The shortsea shipping company recently signed a contract with the Dutch fuel supplier OCI Global for the supply of “green” methanol in the port of Rotterdam from 2024. Further supply ports and methanol suppliers are still to be found, according to reports.
