Maritime Coordinator Dieter Janecek met with representatives of WISTA Germany in Berlin yesterday.
WISTA Germany – the German branch of the international network for women in leadership positions in the maritime industry – accepted Dieter Janecek’s invitation to the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK). The meeting was not only extremely positive, but also marked a step towards equal rights and the promotion of women in the maritime industry.
“The visit with WISTA Germany to Dieter Janecek at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection was extremely positive and enriching. I am pleased that we were able to present a wide range of career paths and expertise in the maritime industry with the members present and that we will be happy to support the maritime industry in the future,” said Franziska Eckhoff, President of WISTA Germany, afterwards.
WISTA Germany brings important topics to the table
The meeting focused on various topics that underlined the importance and necessity of equality and diversity in the maritime industry. Discussions included the International Day of Women in Shipping and the German Shipping Day, at which WISTA Germany is organizing a symposium to inspire young talent for the maritime industry.
Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of diversity in shipping in order to successfully meet the challenges facing the industry. The promotion of women in management positions and the integration of different perspectives and backgrounds were emphasized as decisive factors for innovation and competitiveness.
In addition, WISTA Germany asked the Maritime Coordinator important questions regarding funding opportunities for the maritime industry, existing networks and the desired input from women in the industry.
Following the visit to Dieter Janecek at the BMWK, the representatives of WISTA Germany met Frederike Hesse from Zero44 and Isabel Sum from Arinto, two start-ups from the Flagship Founders. The participants engaged in a constructive exchange and discussed opportunities for collaboration.
