Wasaline looks back on a record month

The Finnish shipping company Wasaline recorded a significant increase in passengers and freight in February.

The RoPax ferries carried almost 15% more passengers than in the previous year. One of the reasons for this is increasing tourism in Northern Europe.

In February, a total of 16,415 passengers traveled with Wasaline, an increase of 14.6% compared to the same period last year. At the same time, the freight volume also reached a record level: the company transported a total of 1,828 units, also a significant increase of 8% compared to February 2024. This was a company record, the shipping company announced.

This development reflects the general increase in passenger and freight volumes between the cities of Vaasa in Finland and Umeå in Sweden, between which Wasaline’s “Aurora Botnia” operates. The 150-meter-long RoPax vessel has been in service since 2021 and is equipped with dual-fuel propulsion and battery technology.

“We are delighted with this result,” said Managing Director Peter Ståhlberg. “It is a clear demonstration of our strong brand and our commitment to sustainable and reliable maritime transportation. We continue to see strong demand and are constantly working to improve our services for our customers.”

According to Wasaline, the success is due to a combination of factors, with the growing tourism industry in Northern Europe leading the way. The ship’s modern technology and low emissions have also helped to attract more travelers and cargo. In the future, the shipping company plans to further expand both the passenger and freight segments, with a focus on sustainable concepts.
