Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, part of the Finnish technology group Wärtsilä, has received an order for four cargo handling systems.
They are to be installed on four ammonia tankers currently under construction in South Korea. The customer is the shipbuilding company Hanwha Ocean, which is building the VLACs (Very Large Ammonia Carriers) with a capacity of 90,000 m3 for the Greek shipping company Naftomar. The equipment will be delivered to the shipyard from the first quarter of 2025.
Wärtsilä continues cooperation with Hanwha
The cargo handling systems are a “modern and proven technology and the result of decades of pioneering work in gas solutions”, the companies announced. With safety and efficiency as priorities, they should also contribute to reducing operating costs and greenhouse gas emissions as well as improving the energy efficiency index of ships.
“We are very pleased to be working with Wärtsilä again,” said a spokesperson for Hanwha Ocean. “Based on our previous cooperation, we can be confident that these systems are the best possible choice for these vessels.”
Wärtsilä was also pleased with the renewed cooperation. “We have a long and positive relationship with Hanwha and have recently completed the delivery of equipment for 12 vessels for them,” said Sales Manager Patrick Ha. “We are also pleased to renew our relationship with Naftomar. These repeat orders are a clear demonstration of our customers’ confidence in the cargo handling systems.”
