Wärtsilä and TMS Cardiff extend maintenance contract

Wärtsilä and TMS Cardiff Gas extend their lifecycle agreement for seven LNG carriers by five years. The aim is to maximize the operational safety and efficiency of the fleet through digital maintenance planning and real-time monitoring.

The Finnish technology group Wärtsilä and the Greek shipping company TMS Cardiff Gas have extended their existing lifecycle agreement for a further five years.

This covers the two-stroke main engines of seven LNG carriers. Through flexible maintenance planning and optimized overhaul intervals, the lifecycle agreement is intended to ensure maximum operational reliability of the ships. The renewed order was booked by Wärtsilä in the third quarter of 2025.

“In a competitive market, unplanned downtime is costly. The combination of technology, the supply of high-quality spare parts and expert support strengthens the operational reliability of our vessels. This enables us to meet the growing global demand for LNG and meet tight delivery schedules,” says Alexandros Politis-Kalenteris, Deputy COO of TMS Cardiff Gas.

Detecting potential problems with real-time data

Each of the seven vessels is equipped with two WinGD 5X72DF dual-fuel two-stroke engines and Wärtsilä gas valve units. The contract includes Wärtsilä’s Dynamic Maintenance Planning Service for flexible maintenance planning with extended maintenance intervals and reduced spare parts consumption, 24/7 remote support and contract management. Also included is Expert Insight, Wärtsilä’s predictive maintenance service that uses real-time data to identify potential problems at an early stage.

TMS Cardiff Gas was founded in 2011 and operates a fleet of 20 modern gas carriers. The company is part of the TMS Group, which manages over 140 vessels in the LNG, LPG, oil/chemical, bulk and container sectors.
