Norwegian carrier shipping company Wallenius Wilhelmsen has signed a contract with an undisclosed car manufacturer.
The deal has an estimated total value of US$580m and will run for three years and three months from 1 January 2025. The agreed transportation rates are in line with current market levels, according to a statement from the company. Wallenius is continuing its busy last few weeks with this next contract. The shipping company recently concluded a five-year contract with an undisclosed manufacturer of agricultural, forestry and road construction machinery with a total value of around US$766m, which begins on 1 December 2024.
Wallenius orders newbuildings
The shipping company has also placed new orders: Two more newbuildings will be built by the China Merchants Jinling shipyard. This brings the company’s order book to a total of twelve Shaper-class vessels, which will be among the largest car carriers in the world. The capacity was recently increased: Four of the ships will now be 11,700 CEU instead of 9,300 CEU (Car Equivalent Units). Delivery is scheduled to begin in 2026.
