Viking Cruises returns to Fincantieri once again with orders for newbuilds. The Italians are building two cruise ships for the shipping company’s fleet.
Fincantieri and Viking have announced the order for two more cruise ships. They will be delivered in 2028 and 2029. The newbuilds are to be built in accordance with the latest environmental and shipping regulations and equipped with the latest safety systems, according to a statement from the shipyard group.
The ships are in the small cruise ship segment, have a gross tonnage of around 54,300 GT and offer space for 998 passengers in 499 cabins.
Already 20 ships for Viking from Italy
The long-standing business relationship between Fincantieri and Viking reportedly dates back to 2012. A total of 20 ships have already been built in Italy for the Swiss-based shipping company, including the expedition cruisers delivered by the shipyard’s subsidiary Vard.
The most recent delivery was the “Viking Saturn” (47,800 GT, 465 cabins) built at the Ancona shipyard just over a year ago. It was the tenth ship in a new class that was developed by a team of designers including Los Angeles-based Rottet Studios and London-based SMC Design, who gave the project a modern Scandinavian style.
