Viking orders 2+4 cruise ships from Fincantieri

The US shipping company Viking Ocean Cruises has ordered two more cruise ships from Fincantieri in Italy. Four options have also been agreed.

The new ocean liners are scheduled for delivery in 2030. The other four units could follow by 2032. The value of the order, which is still subject to financing, is several billion dollars including the options.

These are rather small cruisers with 54,300 GT and space for 998 passengers in 499 cabins. The Italian shipyard group Fincantieri has already built 22 ships for Viking since 2012.

The new ships will be built according to the latest environmental and navigation regulations and equipped with the most modern safety systems. They will feature all the innovations available through the ongoing collaboration between Fincantieri and Viking in the development of environmentally friendly fuels and sustainable zero-emission power generation systems, Fincantieri announced.
