The Norwegian Vard shipyard has received an order from the specialist shipping company Sanco Shipping for the comprehensive conversion of the seismic research vessel “Sanco Sailor”.
The 106.6 m long and 19.2 m wide vessel is to be converted into a seismic source vessel. The unit, which was built in 2010 and previously operated by TGS as the “PGS Apollo” for OMP Apollo, was taken over by Sanco Shipping on July 31 and subsequently transferred to the Vard shipyard in Langsten, Norway. The shipyard has now announced that extensive structural modifications are planned, including the modernization of the existing seismic equipment and the installation of a DP2 system.
“This project is key for Vard to support an important customer, utilizing the high level of expertise required for such specialized work. It also helps to further strengthen Vard’s position in the ship repair and conversion market,” said Wilhelm Eggesbø, SVP Aftersales at Vard.
Odd Henrik Iversen, SVP Yard Director at Vard Langsten, also emphasized the importance: “This project illustrates Vard Langsten’s high level of expertise and capabilities. Carrying out a complex conversion on this scale is a clear demonstration of our team’s commitment, technical skills and ability to add value for our customers.”
With this project, Sanco Shipping aims to further strengthen its position in the seismic and offshore market. The Gjerdsvika-based company was founded in 1996 and currently operates eight vessels worldwide. The focus is on highly specialized seismic units for 2D, 3D and 4D surveys. In addition to operational management, Sanco is also active in fleet modernization, financing and chartering.
