USA extends sanctions against Iran. Those involved in transporting oil to China are now also affected.
The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions against a network of companies and individuals that transport Iranian crude oil to China every year. Iranian and Indian nationals, crew management companies and ships are affected.
According to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Iran uses its oil revenues to fund its nuclear program, ballistic missiles and terrorist groups. The USA wants to increase the pressure on Iran and Russia with tougher sanctions.
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to exert maximum economic pressure on Tehran. Meanwhile, Iranian officials are waiting for a signal from Trump about the possible start of negotiations on the nuclear program.
At the same time, Iran has criticized the new US sanctions against tankers transporting Iranian crude oil to China as illegitimate and unlawful. According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, these measures hinder the country’s legitimate trade with its economic partners and are an act of economic blackmail.
The country blames the US for the consequences of the unilateral measures, describing them as economic harassment that destabilizes international trade and further exacerbates political tensions. (rup)
