DP World Marine Services, the shipping division of the Arabian logistics group, announces a new route in the feeder network of its subsidiary Unifeeder and thus also geographical expansion.
The direct service connects four ports in Colombia with the port of Manzanillo in Panama and is intended to offer export customers, such as fruit producers in North and South America, greater flexibility. [ds_preview]
The new service, operated by Unifeeder, transports container freight between the northern Colombian ports of Turbo, Santa Marta, Cartagena, Barranquilla and Manzanillo in Panama. The service is aimed in particular at export companies that trade in time-critical products such as fresh fruit.
According to DP World Marine Services, in order to increase flexibility, calls at additional terminals in the hub ports are possible, provided there is a corresponding incentive, as if a sufficient amount of freight is available and booked.
Since October 2022, DP World Marine Services has introduced 19 new shipping routes worldwide, including the Vietnam Indonesia Service (VIS) in April 2023 and the India Middle East Service (IMS) in August 2023. With the new service, Unifeeder is expanding its presence in the Americas region. Previously, the Group only operated a service between Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
The increase in frequency and reliability of the feeder services is intended to support the geographical expansion, according to DP World: “The company has strategically deployed new vessels, optimized rotations and introduced shuttle services to meet the growing demand for efficient transport solutions”.
Last fall, it was announced that the Elbdeich shipping company had ordered two methanol-capable container feeder ships, which are backed by a charter agreement with Unifeeder.
