TUI Cruises newbuild “Mein Schiff Flow” floats

The state-owned Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has launched the “Mein Schiff Flow” – the second newbuild in the so-called Intuition class.

TUI Cruises, the joint venture between TUI AG and the US cruise giant Royal Caribbean Cruises, had ordered two ships in the series.

The launch of the second newbuilding has now taken place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone. The ceremony was attended by Daniele Fanara, Director New Building and After Sales of Fincantieri’s Merchant Ship Division, Cristiano Bazzara, Plant Manager in Monfalcone, and Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises, among others.

With the two newbuildings, TUI Cruises had left its long-standing parent shipyard Meyer Turku for the first time and switched to Fincantieri in Italy.

TUI Cruises took delivery of a sister ship earlier this year

Like the “Mein Schiff Relax”, which was delivered in February, “Mein Schiff Flow” is a dual-fuel cruise ship that can be operated with MGO and LNG. Delivery is currently scheduled for mid-2026.

With a measurement of 160,000 GT and a length of 333 m, the sisters will be the new flagships in the TUI Cruises fleet. There will be space on board for almost 4,000 passengers and 1,530 crew members.

According to the information provided, the project is characterized by an innovative configuration that focuses on efficiency. The aim is to reduce energy consumption on board and minimize the environmental impact in accordance with the latest regulations. The ship can use liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is designed to be able to use low-emission fuels such as bio or E-LNG at a later stage.

The engines generate a total of 60,000 kW. This power is brought into the water via two propeller, which enables a service speed of 21.5 knots.

The ship is equipped with catalytic converters that meet the Euro 6 standard, a generator turbine that uses the residual heat from the diesel generators and a shore power connection. All this ensures almost emission-free operation in port, i.e. for around 40% of the operating time, it is said.

The ship is also equipped with an innovative and highly efficient waste treatment system that can convert organic materials into recyclable components through a thermal process.
