In cooperation with Gölcük Naval Shipyard, the Kiel-based shipbuilder TKMS has built the second of six new submarines for the Turkish Navy.
For TKMS Vice President Christian Rogge, the project is proof of the good partnership between the shipyards. The second of a total of six contractually agreed HDW-Class NTSP boats has now been handed over at GNSY.
As part of the cooperation between TKMS and the Turkish Navy, the Kiel-based shipyard is responsible for the design, the supply of all materials and for supervising the construction and testing phase. An 18-month warranty phase will now follow.
“TCG Hızırreis” was taken over by the procurement authority SSB (Savunma Sanayii Başkanlığı) and delivered from there to the Turkish Navy at the same time. The first boat was handed over in October 2024. Christian Rogge, EVP Segment Submarines at TKMS, expressed his satisfaction: “Everyone involved has shown a high level of commitment and willingness to cooperate since the beginning of the project – this is the only way to realize projects of this size on time and within budget. The handover that has now taken place underlines the good partnership between TKMS, GNSY and the Turkish Navy.”
Production of the four remaining boats is reportedly already underway and is currently at different stages of the project. According to the schedule of the state-owned shipyard GNSY, delivery of the third boat is planned for around a year from now.
