Tankers International, which claims to be the largest VLCC pool operator, is expanding its managed fleet: Shipping company Wah Kwong brings in new tonnage.
The Hong Kong-based Wah Kwong has been welcomed as a pool partner, the operator, which was founded in 2020, has now announced. According to the information, the tanker “Hong Kong Spirit”, built in 2013, will join the scrubber pool. This will enable the average age of the pool’s fleet of 39 vessels to be maintained at 11.2 years, it is further stated.
Wah Kwong is a shipowner and operator based in Hong Kong. The company manages a fleet of bulkers, crude oil tankers, liquefied natural gas tankers, and container ships with a tonnage of 4,000 to 318,000 dwt. Founded in 1952 by T.Y. Chao, it is still managed by the third generation of the Chao family.
Charlie Grey, CEO of Tankers International, said: “Wah Kwong’s decision to join our VLCC pool is a clear signal that pooling brings tangible benefits to our partners. From improved cash flow and earnings to fairer charter terms and access to a wider customer base and market intelligence, pooling simplifies the role of the shipowner.”
“Impressed by performance at Tankers International”
Will Fairclough, Managing Director of Wah Kwong, added: “Shipping is a volatile industry and we are always looking to provide a hedge against industry risk.
