Stolthaven Terminals is developing a new terminal in Ceyhan together with the Turkish Rönesans Holding.
The facility is part of a large-scale new construction project valued at over 2 billion dollars.
The terminal includes a deep-sea jetty and a raw materials storage facility. It will integrate environmentally friendly technologies to increase efficiency and sustainability, the partner companies announced. The overarching new construction project also includes a production plant for polypropylene (PP), which is being developed separately by Rönesans. The expected annual production capacity is 472,500 tons of the chemical, which corresponds to around 17% of demand in Turkey.
Thanks to its location in the Ceyhan energy specialty industrial area, the terminal is also ideally positioned to offer efficient and competitive storage and handling services to other customers in southern and central Turkey. The long-term goal is to expand the facility into a chemical terminal to support the future development of the industrial area.
Turkey is one of the world’s largest importers of PP, which is used in textiles and clothing, car parts and packaging, among other things. The development will not only increase the production and distribution of the chemical in Turkey, thus reducing import dependency, but is also of great importance as one of the largest private investments in the country.
Stolthaven expands presence in Turkey
“We are delighted to be working with Rönesans Holding on this landmark project,” said Stolthaven President Guy Bessant. “Stolthaven Terminals has more than 50 years of experience in the safe and efficient handling and storage of bulk liquids and gases, as well as proven expertise in the development of complex and large-scale storage projects. This terminal will not only provide storage capacity for the PP plant in Ceyhan, but is also part of the Ceyhan Energy Specialized Industrial Zone, which could provide storage and logistics solutions for local and international companies seeking distribution services in the region in the future.”
Erman Ilıcak, President of Rönesans Holding, said: “This development demonstrates our commitment to sustainable, impactful investments that support Turkey’s economic and industrial ambitions. The PP plant in Ceyhan will not only bring hundreds of new jobs to the region, but will also ensure a more robust and competitive supply chain for PP, a key raw material for industry in Turkey and Europe.”
Stolthaven Terminals is a subsidiary of Stolt-Nielsen, one of the largest logistics groups in the chemical and oil segment. The parent company also owns the shipping companies Stolt Tankers and Stolt-Nielsen Gas, and only recently also bought into the bulk business.
