Stena tanker on fire off England after collision

A tanker is on fire after a collision in the North Sea off the English coast. 32 people were rescued.

An oil tanker and a container ship collided off the east coast of the UK near Hull, as reported by the BBC and others. According to the British Coastguard, large-scale rescue and recovery operations are still underway. The alarm was raised at 9.48 a.m. local time on March 10, 2025.

The tanker involved in the collision is the 183-metre-long “Stena Immaculate” (built in 2017), which sails under the US flag and was on its way to the port of Killingholme from Greece. It is owned by Stena, but the ship is said to be managed by Crowley. It was reportedly carrying aviation fuel for the US military.

The container ship “Solong” (804 TEU, built in 2005), registered in Portugla, was reportedly bound for Rotterdam and is said to belong to Ernst Russ. The collision may have occurred while the tanker was at anchor.

In the meantime, 32 crew members of the two ships have been taken off board and brought safely ashore, it is reported. The tanker is currently on fire, as can be seen in a coastguard video.
