Following a strategic review of its route planning, the Swedish ferry company Stena Line has announced that it will cease ferry operations on the Rosslare–Cherbourg route starting September 30. The last departure will be from Cherbourg on September 29, arriving in Rosslare on September 30.
The decision is the result of a comprehensive analysis and aims to strengthen the company’s investments in the Irish Sea and utilize operational resources more efficiently, the ferry company said in a statement.
“Our primary concern is and remains the well-being of our employees and customers. We have already held discussions with our colleagues and will explore individual solutions – including possible relocations – as part of the consultation process. We will provide our team with full support during the transition,” said Johan Edelman, Trade Director at Stena Line.

Recently, investments of almost £40 million in the terminals in Liverpool and Belfast were announced, as well as modernization of the port infrastructure in Fishguard. Furthermore, two new cargo ferries are planned for the Belfast-Heysham route, along with an additional cargo ferry for the Dublin-Liverpool route.
“I would like to thank our employees, customers, and partners for the past eleven years. The Rosslare-Cherbourg route has always been a flagship for us, and we will maintain our high standards of quality in the remaining months,” Edelman continued.
Founded in 1962, Stena Line is one of Europe’s leading ferry companies with around 40 ships and 20 routes in Northern Europe and the Mediterranean. The company operates approximately 25,700 crossings annually.
