The shipping company Stena Bulk is expanding its fleet. As the company announced today, it has now concluded charter agreements for four new tankers.
The charters have a term of five years. The newbuildings are expected to arrive at the end of 2025 and in 2026 [ds_preview].
Two of the ships, “Stena Continent” and “Stena Conquest”, will be delivered by Hyundai Mipo by the end of 2025. Two more eco-MR tankers, “Stena Contender” and “Stena Concept”, will follow in 2026. For all ships, the shipyard is using its latest eighth-generation MR tanker design, which is known for its “outstanding” efficiency, according to Stena Bulk.
Stena Bulk reduces fuel consumption
Thanks to the special Hyundai Mipo design, the tankers are said to have “first-class” fuel consumption and use only 15 tons of fuel per day at a speed of 13 knots, the shipping company added. The vessels are also equipped with a scrubber to ensure compliance with global sulphur limits.
“Our long-term fleet expansion strategy always requires us to act flexibly and intelligently, with the best interests of our customers at the forefront. The current situation with costly short-term time charters means we need to think differently and that is why we are proud to sign these four long-term charter agreements for newbuildings. The market-leading sustainability performance of these vessels will help to underpin our sustainability strategy, but the stability that these long-term contracts provide will give peace of mind to our customers worldwide,” says Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk.
