The Greek Attica Group has signed a contract with Stena RoRo for the charter of two new-build e-flexers.
The two vessels will be built by the CMI Jinling Weihai shipyard and are scheduled for delivery in spring and summer 2027. At 240m long and 28m wide each, the two RoPax vessels will be the largest of their kind ever operated by a Greek shipping company. The e-flexers will offer space for 1,500 passengers and have a loading area of around 200 transport units on three decks to carry cars, trucks and other vehicles.
The ship’s engines can run on a total of three different fuels and, according to Attica, will feature “state-of-the-art technology” for maximum efficiency. Compared to other RoPax ships, the e-flexers are expected to emit up to 60% less greenhouse gases.
“Contract with Stena RoRo sets new standards”
The charter agreement between Attica and Stena RoRo is for ten years, but the Greek shipping company will have an option to purchase the ships at the end of the fifth year. The contract with Stena RoRo sets “new standards for the entire Greek ferry industry”, says Attica CEO Panos Dikaios. “We are significantly reducing our environmental footprint, redefining the travel experience and responding dynamically to the challenges of tomorrow.”
Per Westling, Managing Director at Stena RoRo, called the e-flexers the best models to date. The design is “extremely versatile,” he said, and the vessels will play an important role in Attica’s green transformation. He highlighted the “inherent flexibility of different fuels, battery hybrid operation and other fuel-saving features” of the E-Flexers.
