“Star Princess” is about to be delivered

The “Star Princess” is the second ship in the “Sphere” class to be built by the Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri in Monfalcone for Carnival’s Princess Cruises brand.

During the last sea trials from August 9 to 12, the ship left the shipyard for the Adriatic Sea, where it underwent a comprehensive series of tests, including on the steering, navigation systems and propulsion.

The “Star Princess” is the second ship in the Princess fleet to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). This means that it produces fewer emissions than a cruise ship powered by conventional fuel. For better energy efficiency and maneuverability, it is equipped with two Azipod propulsion systems that provide 360-degree thrust for forward and reverse travel. Four adjustable bow thrusters enable precise lateral maneuvering.

“Star Princess” Captain Gennaro Arma, a 27-year veteran of “Princess Cruises” and head of the construction team for the new Sphere Class, oversaw the sea trials. He now leads a team of 1,600 crew members as the ship enters the final phase of outfitting.

“We have led ‘Star Princess‘ through the sea trials with aplomb,” said Captain Arma. “As the proud captain of our newest vessel, I am extremely impressed with the ship’s navigational capabilities and maneuverability. The countdown is on, and my great teammates and I can’t wait to welcome guests aboard for unforgettable adventures this fall.”

The 177,800-ton, 4,300-guest “Star Princess” – sister ship to the “Sun Princess” – is currently undergoing final construction at Fincantieri. The luxury ship will have 30 different bars and restaurants and will offer a “sophisticated range of entertainment and activities”.
