Chinese container shipping company Shandong International Transportation Corporation (SITC) has ordered two more 1,800 TEU feeder ships.
They will be built at the Huanghai Shipbuilding shipyard and are scheduled for delivery in October and December 2027. SITC is investing a further US $58m to increase its order volume from six to eight new ships. Last June, the shipping company signed a contract with Huanghai for four newbuildings, which includes an option for six more. The Hong Kong-listed company is thus preparing for further expansion in the intra-Asian market.
SITC significantly expands capacity
The shipping company has significantly increased its capacity in recent years, including major newbuilding orders in 2020 (for ten feeders with 2,600 TEU each) and 2022 with ten Bangkokmax vessels. According to Alphaliner, SITC’s fleet has now grown to 116 ships (102 of which are owned by the company), and the total capacity of the fleet is 181,811 TEU. This puts the transport company, which specialises in the Asian market, in 14th place in the ranking of container shipping companies.
