The offshore and heavy lift shipping company Cadeler has secured a major order for vessels of the new A-Class and O-Class.
The company, which formerly belonged to the Asian Swire Group, has announced the signing of two firm contracts. They cover the complete transportation and installation of offshore wind turbines and their foundations for a planned offshore wind farm. According to the information provided, the contracts have a total value of “probably around €500 million”.
The transportation and installation of the foundations (T&I) is scheduled to begin in early 2029 and will be carried out using one of the newly built A-Class vessels, which will “break new ground”. This is the third complete order for Cadeler in the area of T&I of foundations. The installation of the turbines is scheduled to begin in early 2030 and will be carried out by one of Cadeler’s O-class jack-up vessels.
The shipping company – which has been based in Denmark since its IPO and has been growing for years with an extensive newbuild program and not least due to the merger with Eneti – is also very well known in local wind farm projects with its large installation and service vessels.
Shipping company CEO Mikkel Gleerup said: “This project strengthens Cadeler’s position as a full-service T&I partner in the foundation sector and shows that our strategic direction is in line with current market requirements. With our fleet of nine wind turbine installation vessels – and three more under construction – Cadeler continues to provide the flexibility, efficiency and innovative solutions required to execute increasingly complex projects and support the necessary expansion of offshore wind energy worldwide.”
Completion is scheduled for the end of 2030. The contracts are subject to the customer’s investment decision for the project. If the customer is not successful, the contracts can be terminated against payment of a termination fee, it is said.
