The Swiss-based shipping company Sallaum Lines has taken delivery of the “Ocean Breeze”, the first of six new LNG-powered Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC).
The newbuilding from the Chinese shipyard Fujian Mawei was recently delivered four months ahead of the original schedule.
The car carrier with a capacity of 7,500 CEU is part of the strategic modernization of the fleet of the RORO carrier specializing in automobile transport. The 199.9 m long and 38 m wide unit has 13 vehicle decks, an LNG dual-fuel main engine, electric RORO systems and a particularly low-emission profile.
According to the shipping company, it is suitable for conventional cars, electric vehicles and packaged hazardous goods. The “Ocean Breeze” is ABS-classed and is expected to exceed the current IMO requirements for CO₂ reduction.
Sallaum Lines is therefore not only relying on new technology, but also on in-depth cooperation with Chinese shipyards, financial institutions and car manufacturers. The project was supported by Shenzhen Capital Group with customized leasing solutions. Parallel to the delivery, the shipping company opened a new office in Shanghai to expand its presence in the Chinese market.
In addition to Fujian Mawei, CMHI Jinling has also been commissioned with further units in the series. The five outstanding newbuildings are to be successively put into service.
“The ‘Ocean Breeze’ stands for innovative green technology and the power of international cooperation,” said Sallaum Chairman Sami Sallaum. They share a common commitment to the sustainable development of the maritime industry with their Chinese partners.
