The Polish Navy christened and launched the second radio-electronic reconnaissance ship of the “Delfin” class. The naval vessel “ORP Henryk Zygalski” is currently being built by Remontowa Shipbuilding in Gdańsk.
After the “ORP Jerzy Różycki”, it is the second of two units for the 3rd Flotilla of the Polish Navy. Both dolphin-class ships are being built at the Remontowa shipyard and are due to enter service by the end of 2027. They will replace the older ships “ORP Hydrograf” and “ORP Nawigator”, which were built in the 1970s. The order is worth around €600 million.
For the naval vessel “ORP Henryk Zygalski”, the outfitting phase and the installation of the equipment and ship systems will now begin. The equipment for both dolphin-class ships is being supplied by the Swedish company Saab. The key elements will be installed by Saab employees at Remontowa Shipbuilding.
The maritime on-board radio and electronic reconnaissance systems enable the acquisition of reconnaissance data across the entire spectrum of maritime SIGINT reconnaissance. According to the Polish Navy, the detailed system specification is classified as confidential.
The new ship is 74 m long and has a displacement of around 3,000 tons. The propulsion system consists of four diesel engines, each with an output of 990 kW. The crew is to comprise around 35 to 40 men.
