Reimerswaal shipyard expands in shortsea capacity

The Reimerswaal shipyard, located in the far north-west of the Netherlands, has now announced that it has acquired another floating dock.

The Reimerswaal shipyard reportedly has a total length of 168 meters and can accommodate ships with a deadweight of up to 18,000 tons and a maximum width of 28 meters. The dock is due to be handed over at the end of this year and will be fully operational in spring 2026.

“This investment strengthens our position as one of the leading ship repair and conversion yards in the region,” reads a social media post from the shipyard. Among other things, it specializes in work on short-sea vessels, tugs, dredgers, fishing vessels and inland waterway vessels. With its location on the Westerschelde, the company aims to position itself primarily for shipowners who serve the ports of Vlissingen, Terneuzen, Ghent, Rotterdam and Antwerp with their ships.

Founded in 1985, Reimerswaal was originally active on the banks of the Westerschelde. In 1990, a branch was opened on the Zuid-Beveland canal gate, where floating docks can be used. In June 2017, a location was opened in the Quarleshaven in Vlissingen-Oost. Here there is a 350 m long repair berth in deep water, a floating dock with 120 x 22 m (internal width) and a workshop. A quay extension at North Sea Port followed in March 2023, allowing the shipyard to expand its services to 410 m of quay space.
