The Italian shipyard group Fincantieri has further expanded its long-standing partnership with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) and received a new order for the construction of a cruise ship.
Once delivered, the new cruiser will be operated by US cruise operator Regent Seven Seas Cruises, a subsidiary of NCLH. The order value, which is subject to financing and other customary conditions, is classified as “large” by the traditional shipyard. At Fincantieri, this classification usually means an order value of between €500 million and €1 billion.
Delivery of the newbuild is scheduled for 2033. The ship will be a sister ship to the “Seven Seas Prestige”, the first newbuild of the new “Prestige” class, which is currently being built at the shipyard in Marghera and is scheduled for delivery in 2026. Another ship of the same class is already planned for 2030.
257 m for 822 passengers
With a gross tonnage of 77,000 and a length of 257 m, the new ship will offer space for 822 passengers – making it one of the most spacious ships per guest in the industry. The partnership between Fincantieri and NCLH is already well established: The cruise group has so far had ten ships built by Fincantieri for the shipping company holding’s various brands. The current order backlog also includes a further thirteen newbuilds that will further strengthen the fleet. These include all of the company’s brands – NCL, Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises – and mark a further step in a joint growth strategy characterized by continuity, strategic foresight and the ability to adapt to the requirements of the global market.
“Our long-term strategic expansion with NCLH, which has been consolidated in recent years with numerous successful orders, further strengthens our collaboration – especially in the ultra-luxury segment represented by Regent Seven Seas Cruises,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri.
Fincantieri shipyard with strong order backlog
The shipyard group is currently on a real wave of success: the company’s turnover recently reached €4.6 billion – an increase of 24% compared to the same period last year. Profitability has also increased significantly: EBITDA increased by 45% year-on-year to € 311 million.
In the first half of the current year alone, the order backlog increased by 35% to €41.9 billion compared to the 2024 financial year. The portfolio comprises more than 100 ships with planned deliveries until 2036.
