Rambow has three more container ships retrofitted at Bredo

The Drochtersen-based shipping company Rambow is having three more container feeders converted at Bredo Dry Docks in Bremerhaven.

After the two ships “Hanna” and “Henneke Rambow” were converted in the docks of the Bredo shipyard in the fishing port in 2023 and 2024 to save fuel – this also included the installation of new bulbous bows – three more feeders are currently being converted for the company. Several companies from the Bremerhaven-based Rönner Group are once again working together on this challenging project.

After the work on the “Ida Rambow” (built in 2007) was recently completed, the “Bianca Rambow” (built in 2004) and “Beate” (built in 2005), all three ships were built at the Hamburg Sietas shipyard at the time, are now receiving new bulbous bows manufactured by SBN in Kaiserdock I and floating dock III at Lloyd Werft. Each component is around 10 m long and weighs up to 50 tons and was manufactured in a construction time of around 11 weeks. After the components were delivered to the docks with the help of the “BHV Athlet” floating crane from BVT Chartering, they were assembled there by the team from Bredo Dry Docks.

The new bulbous bows are slimmer than the previous ones. This should improve the flow characteristics and lead to significant savings in fuel consumption. In addition, the three ships will receive a new, more efficient propeller with setup and a special silicone paint for the outer skin from Bremerhaven-based company Rupertus Strako. The main engine control system will also be modified.

The family-run Rambow shipping company was founded back in 1890 and is now run by shipowner and captain Wilfried Rambow and his sons Sven Rambow and Malte Rambow. Rambow Bereederungs GmbH is based in Drochtersen and today manages twelve container ships and two multipurpose vessels. To document the shipping company’s connection to the ships, most of the company’s ships bear the names of family members.
