The Danish port of Esbjerg once again significantly increased its earnings in the past year.
Turnover reached €42.08 million, and net profit amounted to €12.01 million – a new record. The port, which plays a key role in offshore wind energy among other sectors, is thus laying the foundation for further investments.
The port’s profit also reached an all-time high of €31.76 million – a 22% increase compared to the previous year. According to the annual financial statements, Esbjerg now holds €169 million in equity and €28.6 million in cash and cash equivalents.
“We are extremely satisfied with our annual results,” said Dennis Jul Pedersen, CEO of the Port of Esbjerg, at the Annual General Meeting a few days ago.
Last year alone, the port invested €54.53 million, bringing total investments over the past two years to €115.66 million. Jul Pedersen emphasized that this underlines Esbjerg’s future-oriented strategy. Key projects include the deepening of the Grådyb fairway, land acquisitions in Måde, and the expansion of the East Harbor.
“The capacity and flexibility we offer today are already in high demand, and this demand will continue to increase in the coming years. We are investing in the port for the benefit of our customers,” says Jul Pedersen.

RoRo remains a cornerstone in Esbjerg
Despite the growth in offshore wind and container traffic, the RoRo segment continues to play a central role in Esbjerg. In 2024, RoRo traffic accounted for 40% of total cargo throughput, driven by a sharp rise in car imports. The number of cars handled rose from 46,616 in 2023 to 53,725 in 2024 – an increase of over 15%.
Additionally, the port of Esbjerg reported growth in wind turbines components, bulk cargo and containers, along with rising demand for storage space.
In 2024, the Port of Esbjerg reinforced its position as Europe’s leading climate port. This included investments in shore-to-ship power plants and waste management solutions. The Port of Esbjerg also served as the base port for two major German offshore wind power projects, resulting in high capacity utilization and strengthening strategic ties with the wind energy industry.
Gade: “The best years are still ahead of us”
CEO Søren Gade was satisfied with the port’s strong financial performance, but emphasized the even greater potential ahead: “Esbjerg delivered a strong performance in 2024. But what is even more exciting is that the best prospects are still ahead of us. Thanks to our location, our pace of investment and our green ambitions, we are ideally positioned for a future in which we play an even bigger role both nationally and internationally. Esbjerg has developed into a center for green energy, international logistics and European security.”
