Poland supplies American gas to Ukraine

Poland and Ukraine deepen their energy cooperation: Orlen will supply US LNG to Naftogaz via its Baltic Sea terminals from 2026 – an important step for energy security in Eastern Europe.

Poland plans to supply 300 million m³ of LNG from the USA to Ukraine in the first quarter of 2026. A corresponding agreement between the Polish energy group Orlen and the Ukrainian company Naftogaz was signed last week.

According to the signed memorandum of understanding, the contract provides for three LNG shipments from the USA for the first quarter of 2026. They are to be unloaded either at the terminal in Świnoujście or in Klaipėda. The liquefied gas will be regasified there and transported to Ukraine via pipelines.

Both parties have stated that they intend to determine the final commercial terms and conclude the final contract in the near future. The agreement will increase the total volume of gas deliveries under all contracts with Naftogaz to almost one billion cubic meters.

“Our aim is to strengthen energy security in our region in the long term. The agreement paves the way for an additional 300 million m³ of gas from the USA to be supplied to Ukraine. The close cooperation with our partners enables us to take further steps in the expansion of the so-called Northern Corridor. Within this framework, we plan to launch an open season procedure for the FSRU2 project, which will further improve our ability to support our neighbors,” explained Wojciech Wrochna, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy and Government Commissioner for Strategic Energy Infrastructure.

The agreement between Orlen and Naftogaz was signed at the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy and Climate Cooperation summit in Athens. The summit brought together energy ministers from Poland, the USA, Ukraine and other countries as well as representatives from business and industry, including Orlen and Naftogaz. The event serves as a platform for cooperation and coordination of joint measures to strengthen energy security and cooperation.
