Hamburg-based shipping company Peter Döhle has placed another order with a Chinese shipyard. The order covers four feeder ships of 2,900 TEU each.
Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG is expanding its container fleet with four newbuildings. The Feedermax vessels will be built at the Chinese shipyard CSSC Guangzhou Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding. Each newbuild will have a capacity of 2,900 TEU and is scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028.
The feeders will be equipped with scrubber technology and feature Chittagongmax dimensions. The specific services in which they will operate have not yet been determined. However, according to broker reports, the order is believed to be part of a fleet renewal program, as some of Döhle’s vessels of similar size are approaching the end of their service life.
In spring 2025, the shipping company ordered five Postpanamax-class container ships with a capacity of 8,400 TEU from Guangzhou Shipyard International. The price for each individual ship is $121 million. However, it was announced in May that the Lidl shipping company Tailwind would be taking on the order – the company’s first ever order for newbuildings.
In summer 2024, Peter Döhle also ordered newbuildings for the first time in nine years: CSSC subsidiary Hudong-Zhonghua is building four container ships of 14,000 TEU each for the Hamburg-based company, with the order worth a total of $600 million. The ships are to be delivered between 2026 and 2027.
