Danish offshore specialist Cadeler has received notice from energy supplier Ørsted that a long-term contract for one of its new wind farm installation vessels has been terminated.
The special vessel was originally intended for the installation of turbine foundations at the “Hornsea Three” offshore wind farm, which was scheduled to begin in 2026. In April of this year, the special vessel also received a contract for the “Hornsea Four” project and was scheduled to be in operation from the beginning of 2027 to the end of 2030.
The contract for the ‘A-Class’ wind turbine installation unit was terminated following Ørsted‘s decision to discontinue work on the Hornsea Four offshore wind farm.”

The vessel is designed to transport up to six XXL monopile foundations per round trip. It can also be converted into a wind turbine installation unit capable of transporting and installing either seven complete 15 MW turbine sets per cargo or five turbines exceeding 20 MW, reducing the number of trips required per project.
Cadeler stated that the company is entitled to the agreed compensation for the contract termination and that the vessel can now be allocated to alternative projects, for which discussions are currently underway with third parties.
