Temporary change at the top of the classification society DNV: Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen takes over as interim President and CEO of the DNV Group. He fills in for Remi Eriksen, who will be undergoing treatment for cancer.
Eriksen was diagnosed last week, but is optimistic that he will recover, according to a statement from DNV. “He will start treatment shortly and will therefore leave his position at DNV for a few months,” the company said.
In Eriksen’s absence, DNV’s Board of Directors has appointed Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen (current CEO of DNV Maritime) as interim President and CEO of the DNV Group from February 1, 2026 until August 31, 2026. Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria (current COO of DNV Maritime) will assume the position of interim CEO for Ørbeck-Nilssen during this period.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors of DNV, I want to extend our warmest wishes to Remi for strength, stamina, and a good recovery. We look forward to welcoming him back when he is recovered,” said Fredrik Baksaas, Chairman of DNV’s Board of Directors.
“It’s with great respect and humility that I step in for Remi during his absence. DNV’s strategy and commitments remain unchanged, and we will continue to deliver for our customers and partners without interruption,” said Ørbeck-Nilssen.
The Norwegian has over 25 years of international management experience in the marine, oil and gas industry. He began his career in 1990 as an approval engineer in Oslo and also spent two years as a newbuilding surveyor in Japan. During his 16 years at DNV to date, including as Chief Operating Officer and President Maritime, he has acquired further technical and management expertise. Ørbeck-Nilssen has held the position of CEO Maritime since 2015.
