ONE significantly expands feeder network in Europe

The former Hapag-Lloyd partner ONE is currently expanding its intra-European network more than any other major liner shipping company.

Overall, capacity in the intra-European trade lane has increased by 3.9% or 45,000 TEU compared to February 2024. The Japanese shipping company has almost tripled its market share from just 1% or 11,500 TEU to 2.6% with 30,000 TEU today.

ONE has thus climbed into the top 10 and is currently in 8th place. In addition to a higher number of ships (now 17), the average size of the units deployed has also increased by more than 350 TEU to 1,809 TEU.

The Singapore-based shipping company currently operates nine intra-European services, compared to just three round trips a year ago. Among other things, ONE introduced two new services between Northern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean at the end of 2024, which are operated jointly with Evergreen and Yang Mlng.

MSC is in the lead by a wide margin with a market share of 28.8%. CMA CGM followed in second place with 17.3%, ahead of Maersk with 8.5% and Cosco with 6.6%. Hapag-Lloyd ranked 7th with 2.8%, immediately ahead of ONE. Shortsea specialists such as Unifeeder and Arkas have slipped in between with 5% and 4.3% respectively.

Compared to 2023, the major liner shipping companies have lost around 3.3% of their market share to the smaller operators. It is worth noting that both Gemini partners have lost market share. Maersk has reduced its capacity by 30,000 TEU and lost more than 3% of its market share. Hapag-Lloyd recorded a loss of 0.3%.
