Last November, a serious fire broke out on the “ONE Henry Hudson” in the port of Los Angeles. The ship is now to be repaired in Asia.
A major fire broke out in the cargo area of the “ONE Henry Hudson” (8,212 TEU) in November when the ship was anchored at the Yusen Terminal (YTI) in Los Angeles. It had arrived from Tokyo on November 19.
An explosion occurred during the extinguishing work, causing the fire to spread further. In the meantime, the ship had to be removed from the port to prevent major damage. More than 40 containers are said to have been affected by the fire, and operations at the YTI and surrounding terminals had to be temporarily suspended. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
The shipping company ONE has now announced that the ship has been completely unloaded. As announced in November, all containers have been inspected and categorized according to the degree of damage. They are currently being temporarily stored in designated storage areas in the YTI.
The ship itself has been on its way across the Pacific to Asia since January 21 to be repaired there. ONE did not initially disclose which shipyard was carrying out the work. The shipping company assured that it would work closely with all parties involved and would continue to keep customers informed about the whereabouts of the ship and its cargo. The “ONE Henry Hudson” was built in 2009 and sails under the flag of Panama. (JW)
