The Polish energy group Orlen has concluded a contract with its Ukrainian partner Naftogaz for the supply of 300 million m3 of natural gas from the USA for the first quarter of 2026.
The deal follows an agreement reached by the companies during the Transatlantic Partnership for Energy and Climate (P-TEC) Summit, which took place in Athens in early November 2025.
Only a few days passed between the signing of the letter of intent and the conclusion of the final contract. During this time, all contractual details were reportedly clarified and the necessary company approvals were obtained. “This rapid process would not have been possible without mutual trust and a clear understanding of the needs and goals of both sides. The cooperation between our companies strengthens the region’s energy security while creating conditions for further business growth and strengthening market positions on both sides,” said Robert Soszyński, Orlen’s Vice President of Operations.
Sergii Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz, added: “We continue to diversify our gas supply sources and routes to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience. This year, 600 million m3 of American LNG will be delivered to Ukraine as part of our cooperation with Orlen. In total, we expect US LNG imports of 1 billion m3 in 2026. I am grateful to our Polish partners for their trust.”
Basis for further agreements
Under the contract, Orlen will supply Naftogaz with gas from three cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the US in the first quarter of 2026. The transaction is on an arm’s length basis, according to the statement. Orlen will be responsible for the procurement and supply of the raw material.
With its own LNG tanker fleet and reserved regasification capacities, the company intends to position itself as a major player in the global LNG market. Orlen is systematically expanding its presence in Central and Eastern Europe on the basis of a diversified and flexible gas procurement portfolio.
Since the start of regular commercial cooperation with Naftogaz in 2025, Orlen has already sold 600 million m3 of gas to Ukraine. The newly signed contract further deepens the partnership between the two companies and could form the basis for future agreements, the Polish company announced.
