NVL hands over first corvette to Bulgarian Navy

NVL has handed over the first of two corvettes for the Bulgarian Navy. They are being built by MTG Dolphin in Varna. The unit is based on an NVL design and strengthens Bulgaria’s capabilities in NATO and EU missions.

The NVL shipyard has delivered the first of two corvettes to the Bulgarian Navy. The ships are being built under NVL’s management at MTG Dolphin in Varna, Bulgaria.

“We are very proud to hand over this complex and state-of-the-art vessel to the Bulgarian Navy on schedule. Together with our customer, the shipyard partner MTG Dolphin and our national and international partners, we have handed over an extremely high-performance and highly effective unit to the Navy,” said Tim Wagner, CEO of NVL. According to Wagner, NVL is making “an essential contribution to the maritime security of the Bulgarian Navy” with this milestone.

Svetlin Stoyanov, CEO of MTG Dolphin, expressed similar sentiments: “Today is a historic milestone for the Bulgarian Navy: the delivery of the first naval vessel built entirely in Bulgaria. This milestone demonstrates our capabilities in shipbuilding, our national industrial base and the strong partnership with NVL as prime contractor.”

The on-time delivery of such a complex program underlines the commitment and expertise of both teams and the Navy. “We are proud to be able to contribute to strengthening the Bulgarian naval forces,” said Stoyanov.

The approximately 90 m long ships are based on a proven design from the NVL portfolio and have an integrated battle management system. The units, which displace more than 2,300 tons, are predestined for operations as part of international NATO and EU alliance missions and will enable the Bulgarian Navy to counter threats from the air and land as well as above and below water.

NVL is responsible for the project in cooperation with its subsidiary Naval Technology Bulgaria (NTB). According to NVL, the integration of local suppliers – for example for interior fittings and air conditioning and ventilation systems – has had numerous positive effects on value creation and local employment since the start of the project.

The second corvette is at an advanced stage of production and is also on schedule.
