Norden continues to expand its MPP fleet

Danish shipping company Norden has expanded its fleet with two more MPP newbuilds.

The two ships, each with 17,500 dwt, are expected to be delivered in 2026 and 2027. Norden recently took delivery of two similar MPPs.

“This underlines our commitment to building a core MPP fleet and expanding our presence in the project cargo market, which is benefiting from a strong demand forecast, a rapidly ageing fleet and a low order backlog,” the shipping company announced. The newbuildings will have a fuel-efficient design and will be able to run on biofuels. They have the same forward bridge design as the previous models, which should optimize the space capacity for complex cargo. As with the leasing contracts concluded in January, there is also a purchase option for these vessels.

Norden – primarily active in the bulk business – entered the MPP segment in 2023. The Projects & Parceling division now has a specialized fleet of 50 ships that transport wind power components, industrial equipment and general cargo. As division manager Thomas Mikkelsen announced, the shipping company will build up a “core fleet” of MPP freighters. In total, Norden operates a fleet of over 400 vessels for both dry and liquid bulk.
