There was good news at the Hitzler shipyard in Lauenburg on Friday – namely the order to build a new ship.
The two shipyard bosses Marek and Kai Klimenko gathered their employees at the shipyard on Friday afternoon to share the good news. Marek Klimenko then announced the order. It is a sea-going draft vessel for the WSA Elbe/Nordsee with a length of 27.5 m, a width of 8 m and a draught of only 1.40 m. This newbuilding order with the construction number 840 “suits us perfectly, it is exactly our size,” said Marek Klimenko, who has worked on around 50 newbuildings at the Hitzler shipyard over the course of his career.
Following the completion of the “Coriolis” , the upcoming newbuild will also join the ranks of modern ships. It will be diesel-electrically powered with two Schottel propellers. Batteries with an output of 600 kW will provide more range and absorb peak loads. This will enable the new WSA Elbe/North Sea vessel to operate with low emissions in the sensitive ecosystem of the North Sea.
“This order once again underlines the innovative strength of Hitzler Werft. We are delighted to be building this ship for WSA Elbe/Nordsee,” says Marek Klimenko.
“In times in which manufacturing and engineering resilience is becoming increasingly important, we are pleased to be setting a good example with a newbuild from Schleswig-Holstein for Schleswig-Holstein and to be able to build custom work to German shipbuilding standards in our Helgenhalle once again,” adds Kai Klimenko.
The shipyard is now starting the preliminary planning. Model trials are planned for early 2026. The Hitzler shipyard is currently still building the biogas-powered Elbe ferry “Amt Neuhaus – Bleckede”. The Lauenburg shipbuilders are also working to capacity with new engines and hybridization of inland vessels. These projects are currently being implemented by around 150 employees.
