The Rostock-based engineering firm Neptun Ship Design – acquired by Meyer Werft and Fassmer Werft in 2022 – has once again seen a change in the position of Managing Director. The new MD come from TKMS.
From 2026, Paul Brzesina will become Managing Director of Neptun Ship Design (NSD), as has now been announced. The current Managing Director, Tjerk de Vries, who has accompanied NSD over the past two years and took over as sole Managing Director in April, will remain in office until then “to ensure a smooth handover”.
“I really enjoyed working with NSD and initiating the necessary future-oriented transformation. Today we are seeing the first successes and the changes are taking effect. In Paul, we have found the right successor,” said de Vries. The shareholders of NSD, who took over the engineering firm in 2022 following the insolvency of the previous owner MV Werften, thanked him for his dedication and commitment.
Brzesina spent the last 15 years working for the TKMS Group, the marine business of Thyssenkrupp, which recently went public. He began his career in the surface ship division in Hamburg, formerly Blohm + Voss Naval, before moving to the submarine division in Kiel, formerly Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW). At that time, he was involved in the merger of the two divisions and the restructuring of sales. He subsequently managed several international submarine sales campaigns, including the initial phase of the bilateral 212CD program between Germany and Norway.
Most recently, Brzesina was Program Manager for the 218SG class submarines in Singapore and Managing Director of TKMS Singapore, the maintenance division for the 218SG submarines. “I am very much looking forward to joining NSD and continuing on the path set by my predecessor. NSD has helped design over 225 vessels in just 30 years – this is impressive and demonstrates the company’s unique capabilities and expertise in shipbuilding and marine equipment for a variety of different vessel types and designs. For me, this is ‘Made in Germany’ and German SMEs at their best,” said Brzesina.
