Nauticworx: New spot platform for workboats launches at SMM

The start-up “Nauticworx” is aimed at shipowners who want to avoid downtime in their fleet and charterers who need a workboat at short notice.

The platform, founded by shipping experts Friso Visser and Björn Smets, was officially launched at SMM 2024. Nauticworx aims to simplify fleet management for shipping and offshore. It aims to provide a seamless, fast and secure solution for chartering regional workboats. Depending on the location, ships are only offered within a radius of up to 800 nm, so that considerable time and fuel savings can be achieved. Users of the digital platform remain anonymous – until they decide they no longer want to be.

“We are delighted to present Nauticworx.com at SMM 2024,” said Friso Visser, co-founder and CEO of the start-up. “It’s great to see the ideas we had a year ago come to life – and go live – for which we have to thank in part our digital technology partner iQuality and John van Beek, who we’ve worked so hard with over the past few months. I’m also very grateful to all the people from the chartering, brokerage, offshore construction, oil and gas, towage, supply and wind energy sectors who have advised us and helped us define the industry’s most pressing needs, both in terms of asset availability and associated costs.”

Nauticworx enables fast regional chartering

According to a company statement, one of the most important features of Nauticworx is the constantly updated database, which allows users to find the right vessel for their needs within a few days. Furthermore, the portal makes it possible to individually adjust the required fleet size at short notice if the company expands or downsizes.

Nauticworx also promises fixed subscription prices with no hidden fees. The operating costs should be comparatively low due to local or regional availability. The long transit journeys that are avoided in this way help to reduce emissions and fuel consumption.

“Uncomplicated, intelligent and fast”

“We believe that Nauticworx.com will become a useful tool in the maritime industry, especially for those operating in the spot market,” said Björn Smets, Co-Founder and Operations Director of the company. “Our platform is not only about connecting vessels and projects, but also about doing so in a way that improves profit, sustainability and overall efficiency. It’s about avoiding project delays, cutting costs, reducing fuel consumption, bridging downtime and ensuring the availability of fit-for-purpose vessels, to put it briefly. It’s simply a simpler, smarter and faster way to manage maritime operations.”

According to a company statement, Nauticworx will not be just another technical solution on the market. In an industry that is “notoriously resistant to modernisation”, the start-up will act as a “catalyst for change”. The founders have looked at the industry from all angles and used their findings to develop a tool that is as innovative as it is practical. It meets the “immediate needs of professionals”, but also keeps general concerns such as sustainability and efficiency in mind.
