MPC Container Ships and NCL christen new feeder

Following its successful christening, the brand new feeder “NCL Vestland”, the first of two methanol-capable newbuildings from MPC Container Ships, is entering service.

The container feeder vessel is the first of two dual-fuel newbuildings with a capacity of 1,300 TEU that will be delivered to MPCC in 2025. The ships are bound to NCL with 15-year time charter contracts, which in turn has secured long-term freight contracts, including a 15-year CoA with the Norwegian industrial group Elkem.

In future, the “NCL Vestland” will sail between Rotterdam and ports in western, central and northern Norway. According to the information provided, the ships will enable more effective and environmentally friendly transportation of Norwegian goods and critical metals and materials to European and international markets.

“Together with our partners NCL and Elkem, this project enables us to establish a green transport corridor in Northern Europe and at the same time take the right step towards further decarbonization of the fleet,” says Constantin Baack, CEO of MPCC.

The “NCL Vestland” is the first dual-fuel ship in the MPCC fleet that can run on methanol. Further such newbuilds will follow, it is said.
