Meyer Werft undocks the “Disney Treasure”

Without any official announcement by Meyer Werft, the 341-metre-long cruise ship “Disney Treasure” has been successfully undocked at the Papenburg shipyard.

Following the successful undocking, the newbuilding for Disney Cruise Line was moved to the shipyard’s fitting-out pier. Over the next few days, some initial tests will be carried out on the ship in the shipyard port.

According to a statement from the Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal Defence and Nature Conservation (NLWKN), the ship will probably be transferred to the Ems on 21 September with the help of the Ems barrage in Gandersum. Two weeks earlier, on September 6 and 7, the “Disney Treasure” will serve as the backdrop for a major music festival.

The cruise ship, which can carry up to 3,500 passengers and is the sixth ship for the American Disney Cruise Line, is themed around Captain Hook and Peter Pan. Two large figures, which were produced in California, are attached to the ship’s name lettering at the stern. The Disney figure of Peter Pan, for example, is over 2.70 m tall. Captain Hook and Peter Pan “complement the adventure theme of the “Disney Treasure” and add a touch of Disney magic to the classically designed hull”, according to the shipping company.

After the Ems transfer and test voyages of the newbuilding, final outfitting work will be carried out on board. In the past, this work was successfully carried out at the Columbus Cruise Centre in Bremerhaven. However, Meyer Werft has not yet provided any information on this. Eemshaven in the Netherlands would be an alternative.

The second of four identical Disney newbuilds of the so-called “Wish class” will then be handed over to the shipping company by the end of November or early December at the latest. The handover of the type ship of this series, the “Disney Wish“, took place on 9 June 2022 at Columbuskaje in Bremerhaven.

It will then cross the Atlantic without passengers. The maiden voyage is scheduled to depart from Port Canaveral in Florida on 21 December. Meanwhile, the third ship in this series is already under construction at Meyer Werft, the “Disney Destiny”, which is due to be delivered next year. The keel was laid in Papenburg on March 20. (CE)
