At Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami, Meyer Werft is presenting the concept for a climate-neutral cruise ship specifically for senior citizens for the first time.
The starting point for this ship concept is demographic change with a focus on America and Europe. In 2100, the number of people aged 80 and over in the USA will be equal to the number of people aged 65 and over today.
“From this we have derived a new target group, which we call 80+, and looked at what needs and requirements such a target group would have,” says Tim Krug from Meyer Werft.
It is not about a floating care home. The “Serenity” would offer services for people who are independent. Examples of the age-appropriate design include additional requirements in terms of walking routes, wider gangways and more opportunities for social interaction, Krug continues.
Meyer showcases its entire product portfolio
The shipyard group from Papenburg will also be presenting its current product portfolio for the cruise industry at Seatrade Cruise Global. “Meyer Werft is the only shipyard that offers the complete range from river cruise ships to large ocean-going vessels,” says Thomas Weigend, Executive Vice President Sales.
