Martin Helweg steps down as CEO of P&O Maritime Logistics

Martin Helweg has stepped down as CEO of P&O Maritime Logistics, a subsidiary of the Dubai-based logistics company DP World.

He had spent some “incredible years as CEO” since taking up the post in 2020. Now he wants to dedicate himself to new goals.

Helweg was Managing Director at P&O for four years

“My time at P&O has been full of numerous highlights,” he looked back in a Linkedin post, “and I am particularly proud of the resilience of our team. Despite the challenges in the world and in our industry, we have consistently exceeded expectations and our targets every year.”

Before joining P&O Maritime Logistics, Helweg worked as COO for the offshore company Topaz. Prior to that, he worked for Maersk’s tugboat company Svitzer for almost ten years, where he was CEO for Asia (2008-2010) and then for the Americas (2011-2017).

Since its merger with Topaz in 2019, P&O has operated a diverse offshore fleet, including bulkers, tankers, and heavy-lift vessels. The company has around 3,500 employees and an annual turnover of around US$2bn. Helweg’s successor has not yet been officially appointed, but there are rumours that P&O CFO Prasad Narayan will take over as CEO.

Helweg is not the first leader to leave a DP World company in July. Earlier this month, Jesper Kristensen stepped down as CEO of feeder shipping company Unifeeder – after more than 15 years.
